Derbyshire County Council’s Action Grants are funding our new youth club!
We are excited to announce that Fairplay has secured funding from Derbyshire County Council’s Action Grants to run a new youth club. The Motor Activity Training Programme (MATP) Youth Club.
The Special Olympics Motor Activity Training Programme is an international programme designed for athletes who are unable to participate in official Special Olympic sport competitions because of their skill and/or functional abilities. It is designed to prepare athletes, including those with a severe or profound intellectual disability and significant physical disabilities, for sport-specific activities appropriate for their ability levels. It is a person-centered approach to sport which also helps individuals to build upon their mobility, dexterity, striking and kicking skills.
We aim to run multiple 12 week MATP schemes for young people aged 11-25 years with severe and multiple disabilities. After which athletes will compete in a ‘challenge day’ where they will showcase their personal achievements in front of their families, carers, friends and local businesses/support services. Once athletes have completed in a ‘challenge day’ they can access further regional & international competitions.
We recently received our first parcels of specialist sporting equipment, supplied by Davies Sport. We can’t wait to get started!
