Good News!

I am absolutely delighted to announce that Fairplay’s bid to Myplace for the full cost of the Fairplay centre has been successful!

As well as a state of the art centre for Fairplay, the grant will allow for the refurbishment by Derbyshire County Council of the next door Donut Creative Arts Studio (formerly Springbank Centre). This will become an inclusive centre for contemporary music, media, arts and dance and will provide our members with amazing opportunities to become involved in the arts. Our new centre is designed with an emphasis on accessibility for young people with additional needs and disabilities.

Building work has commenced and it is expected that the centre will be opened in March 2010.

The adjoining allotment site will be used for access during the building process and afterwards will be turned into children’s allotment and wildlife garden.

I would like to thank everyone involved in the project so far for their wonderful commitment and support in making Fairplay’s dream to have its own centre a reality!! 

However, the work continues …. we will be looking for sponsorship for indoor and outdoor play equipment as well as the fitting out of the sensory room and activity hall. If you are aware of anybody wanting to get involved please give me a ring.

Other ways you can help include joining the Unity Lottery, holding coffee mornings and attending the many exciting activities and events such as fashion shows and charity auctions, even bag packing at Sainsbury's! - during our year as the Chesterfield branch of Sainsbury's chosen Charity of the year.

We would like Fairplay members, volunteers and staff to organise and take part in fundraising events of their own.

Remember that all Fairplay members throughout North Derbyshire will benefit from the new centre and everyone needs to get involved!!
